2.   I am certified in another state and I have relocated to Texas.  How do I  become certified in Texas?
Please contact the State Board for Educator Certification Information and Support Center at  1-888-863-5880 or online at http://www.sbec.state.tx.us/Teachers from other states are eligible for a Texas One Year Certificate after an application process which includes an online application, fee, fingerprinting, and review of credentials.
New Humble ISD employees are required to complete all these steps before the first day of employment.
During the first year of teaching in Texas, out of state candidates must pass the appropriate Texas examinations  ( TExES, TOPT, TASC ) for certification.
Employment contracts will not be renewed in April, 2007 if the testing requirements and full Texas certification are not complete.

The 77th Texas Legislature allowed for SBEC to conduct a study of test comparability among other states and that process is currently underway. Please check with SBEC on the most up to date findings of that study. Some candidates may soon qualify for a test exemption. The SBEC website has a page with detailed information on the comparability study of out of state testing. Click here to view the results

3. My Standard Certificate expires this month. How do I renew my certificate with SBEC?
Aides and teachers who were issued a 5 year Standard Certificate after September 1, 1999 must renew the certificate every five years. You can renew up to 6 months ahead of the expiration date. Please go to:

http://www.sbec.state.tx.us/SBECOnline/certinfo/renewcertonline.asp

and follow the directions. Pay online with a credit card.

4I am certified in Texas and have been teaching elementary school for 2 years, how do I become eligible to teach at the high school level?
You must take and pass the secondary content area test (ExCET or TExES) and apply to have the teaching field added to your certificate.
This involves an online application and a fee after passing the appropriate test.

5.  I have passed the TExES for ESL. Am I now certified to teach ESL?
No, it is not added to your certificate as a teaching field until you apply online with SBEC and pay the fee. Go to  http://www.sbec.state.tx.us/SBECOnline and make application and pay with a credit card. Your certificate will be issued in  a few weeks.

6.  I have been out of teaching for many years and wish to come back into the field of education.   Is my 1982 Texas Teacher Certificate still valid?    Am I still certified?
If you have not taught since the 1985-1986 school year and did not pass the TECAT, your Texas Certificate is invalid.  In order to revalidate your certificate you must either pass THEA, which replaces the TASP, (offered at local colleges and universities)  -OR- pass any TExES or ExCET (register online at http://www.texes.ets.org

). The THEA and the TExES are administered by Educational Testing Service and you must register for the tests ahead of time.
