Summer Credit by Exam
Each summer Humble ISD provides testing sessions for students who wish to attempt credit by exam for acceleration to skip a grade and/or course. Current 6th and 7th grade students who wish to advance to an honors mathematics class will follow the same testing procedure and schedule as all other students taking credit by exam for acceleration. Please publicize this information about these opportunities at your campus, as appropriate. This spring we will have two testing sessions on Saturday, May 17 and Saturday, May 31. We will have summer testing every Thursday beginning June 13.

Eligibility: We honor all requests for credit by exam for acceleration. By state rule, there is no charge to parents for the testing; the district purchases the tests from Texas Tech University.Testing Criteria: To skip a grade, elementary students must take 4 tests and middle school students must take 8 tests – Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science for the grade they wish to skip. A score of 80% is required on all tests for the student to be eligible to skip the grade. Tests are given over 2-3 days with two tests each day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon with a lunch break in between. Students are allowed 3 hours for each test although they rarely use that much time. Parents should be available on testing days so they can be reached if students finish early.

Beginning mid-May, we will begin to formalize class rosters for next school year. Our process is elaborate and research-based to ensure students are placed appropriately for success. Some of you have shared questions regarding the formation of homerooms for next year. Therefore, in an effort to communicate openly, the process is as follows.
In the best interest of the children, as well as the teachers and the school climate, each grade level will work with the principal, assistant principal, counselor, and Academic Lead Teachers to form classes for the 2014-2015 school year. The climate or learning environment of the class is an important element for student success. Factors to be considered by the teachers as classes are formed include, but are not limited to, individual students’ strengths, challenges, work habits, conduct, and special programs. Our intention is to form well balanced learning communities where all children will succeed.
In the past, parents have shared the desire to choose a specific teacher for their child. You may have chosen a wonderful teacher (and they all are!), but the group of children in that teachers’ room may not be the best for your child’s personality and needs. Please keep in mind staffing assignments also change from year to year as enrollment fluctuates and campus needs change. Additionally, it would be impossible to honor requests for all 650 plus children.
We understand how precious your children are to you, and we, too, have the best interests of each student of Pine Forest at heart. We do value your thoughts. In an effort to be fair and consistent, we would recommend that if you feel there are certain new facts we need to know about your child, please send a letter describing such needs without requesting a specific teacher. If, for example, your child has specific educational or behavioral needs, describe them for us. Letters should be addressed to me and delivered no later than May 9, 2014.
Please understand that this information will be one of the factors considered as we combine students and teachers in ways which will best assure all a successful and enjoyable 2014-2015 school year. All letters will be shared with your child’s teacher next school year so he/she can better support your child’s educational needs.

Pine Forest Elementary is a No Place for Hate®school. The No Place for Hate® initiative is about establishing a school-wide atmosphere which addresses appreciating differences, respect, kindness toward others, and anti-bullying.
As a part of our initiative at Beautification Day, we all joined in together to Spring clean and give the campus some TLC by painting the picnic tables, weeding, and planting flowers in the “Peace Garden”, the front entry, vegetable garden area, and at the school marquees. The beautiful “Peace Garden” is a very happy place filled with flowers and messages of kindness.
The garden will continue to be used as a special place for classroom and counseling activities for our students.
