Ahoy, Panthers!

We are excited to set sail for the 2014-15 school year! With approximately 660 Proud Panthers registered to attend PFE in Kindergarten through Fifth grade, PFE’s theme for this school year is “Set Sail for a Learning Adventure!”  Sailing with an outstanding faculty and staff, our focus is on learning and helping each student reach his or her fullest potential, both academically and socially. Our crew has been working very hard in professional development this summer to chart the course to provide excellent learning opportunities for all students.

Welcome aboard to thirteen highly qualified teachers, a school nurse, receptionist, para educator, and a Licensed School Psychologist to our team. Each love children and are committed to making your child’s learning experience meaningful for life. We will miss those this year that have charted a new course to retirement, promotion, motherhood, relocation at home and abroad, and new career opportunities. Until we meet again…“May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face.”

Embarking on our learning adventure requires safety routines and procedure protocols. Therefore, all visitors must continue to check in at the front safety vestibule with their valid driver’s license. Additionally, new for this year, car riders will be dismissed from the front grade level hallways of the building rain or shine. This allows for consistency in daily dismissal procedures and provides protection from the Texas weather while creating another layer of safety. Dismissal can take extra time at the start of school until patterns are established. We appreciate your patience.

Our RIGOR, RELEVANCE, AND RELATIONSHIPS effort for this school year spotlights learning through quality student engagement, writing across the curriculum, and building strong relationships with our students and their families. PFE’s Fall and Spring fundraisers will be devoted to purchasing student reward incentives, instructional materials, professional development, and technology to support our campus goals located in our Campus Improvement Plan. In the spirit of our College and Career initiative, we invite our students to participate in Wisdom Wednesdays by wearing their college shirts/college colors. Spirit Days are every Friday. So, show your Panther Pride by wearing school colors/school t-shirt.

As we chart our course for the year, our teachers prepare to differentiate instruction to promote student achievement and integrate technology. Students have access to computers in every classroom along with two complete Dell labs. Each faculty member is equipped with an iPad to support instructional strategies. Students learn keyboarding skills, use digital resources, utilize a variety of online resources/educational software, and create technology-integrated projects. Students also attend Specials weekly that consists of Music, Library, PE, and Computer Lab. The Specials schedule will reflect a Monday through Friday set rotation. Art is provided during Specials time during the 1st and 3rd nine weeks.  Our goal is for all students to become successful, independent thinkers and problem-solvers as they navigate the curriculum.

In preparation to set sail on our “Panther Ship” on Monday, August 25th, we look forward to seeing you at our Panther Premiere scheduled for Friday, August 22nd. See our website for grade level times. We are so fortunate to have a wonderful PTA that supports our students and staff throughout the school year. I encourage you to join our PTA and to volunteer in our school. Please stay connected to PFE by visiting our staff and campus websites, by reading our weekly electronic PFE Flyer (parent newsletter) on Fridays and by signing up for School Insider and Remind101.  We look forward to Setting Sail for a Great Learning Adventure this school year with you and your child.
